Bolingbrook's Pelican Harbor Gets Prestigious Award

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Starfish Aquatics Institute (SAI) awarded Pelican Harbor, operated by The Bolingbrook Park District, the prestigious Five Star Award following risk management audits conducted in 2015. Tim Jaskiewicz accepted the award on behalf of The Bolingbrook Park District.

“Very few aquatic facilities qualify to receive this honor,” stated Leslie Donavan, President of SAI. “It represents a tremendous commitment to safety and training, and exceptional performance by the lifeguard staff on duty at the time.”

The local lifeguards who contributed to achievement of the 5-Star award included Sam Anderson, Monica Burzynski, Daniel Carter, Peter Carter, Omar Cervantes, Matt Coffman, Amy Edwards, Alan Favela, Austin Gapen, Cassidy Green, Kristina Hiller, Larri Learnahan, Nick Majer, Kiana Martin, Eddie Moline, Mikayla Napiwocki, Spencer Napiwocki, Cody Padlo Nick Perry, Noah Sammarco, Allison Stevens, Alex Swanson, Mark Tumala, and Nicole Walsh.

SAI is one of the largest lifeguard, swim instructor and pool operator certifying agencies in the United States. The Institute offers state-of-the-art training courses and also provides risk management services to the aquatic industry. In partnership with Human Kinetics, the world’s leading publisher for the activity field, the Institute offers state-of-the-art training textbooks, and multi-media online resources.

Founded by Jill White, a renowned aquatics expert, SAI uses an integrated experiential approach to learning. All SAI training programs incorporate this innovative technique. Pelican Harbor is using the StarGuard® Lifeguard Certification program and will be using the Starfish Swimming® Instructor Certification program beginning this summer.

Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park is a facility of the Bolingbrook Park District. The Bolingbrook Park District is a public parks and recreation agency located in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The Bolingbrook Park District operates two community centers, an indoor/outdoor aquatic park, golf course, banquet hall and restaurant, two fitness centers, two outdoor skate parks, a sports complex, nature center and conservation area, and 48 parks along with their many playgrounds, picnic shelters and over 1087 acres of land.
