Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, appointed last year to complete the term of retired Mayor Emeritus Roger Claar, is seeking her own term as Mayor in the April 6th Consolidated Election. When asked why she is running for Mayor, she responded, “I am running for Mayor because I want to lead us in the effort to continue to keep Bolingbrook a place where residents can live, work, play and grow. I am focused on the good of the community. As a resident, like you, I have great expectations, I expect more from our elected officials. As Mayor I have provided and will continue to provide more transparency, more discussion to unite residents on issues facing our community and more careful planning.”

Martha “Marti” M. Barton, recently appointed to complete the term of retired Clerk Carol Penning, is also seeking her own term as Village Clerk. “When Carol needed to step down due to health reasons, I saw this as an opportunity to step up.” Barton said. “As a long-time resident, business owner, and community leader, I want to continue to use my knowledge, experience, and the relationships within the Village that I already have to help connect our residents with the Village services they need, and to continue carrying out the Clerk’s role as good steward of the Village’s records, so that the people’s business can be carried out efficiently and per state statute.”

Deputy Mayor Michael T. Lawler is seeking re-election to what would be his seventh term as Trustee. “We are in a historic transition period for the Village with Mayor Claar retiring after 33 years, installation of a part-time Mayor, and the appointment of Co-Administrators to manage Village operations. I wanted to help ensure a smooth transition honoring what has been put in place to make the community that so many residents and businesses chose along with finding new and exciting ways to manage for the future.”

Trustee Maria Zarate is also seeking re-election in April. “I am running for a third term as Village Trustee with hopes to continue the success and growth that we have had in Bolingbrook while also providing the right support systems to our residents during these trying times in the country. I want to continue my work with assisting our Bolingbrook youth and being an advocate for the Latino Community.”

Bolingbrook’s Olympian Troy Doris is seeking to fill what will be a vacancy on the Village Board with the retirement of Trustee Jaskiewicz who is not seeking re-election. About his decision to run for office, Doris said, “I want to be an advocate for and voice the opinions of our young adults to bring fresh ideas to our community. I am accessible and will provide a direct line of communication to residents to address their questions and concerns.”
