Fountaindale Library District Candidate Booted From Ballot

Some signatures on Sinatra Strong's petition were considered invalid as the pages did not mention which office he was running for.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Fountaindale Public Library District candidate will be omitted from the ballot after an objection to his petition was sustained by the Will County Officers Electoral Board.

The objection, by Sharyn Mooi, claimed that the candidate petition packet filed by Sinatra Strong did not have the required number of valid signatures. According to state law, a candidate running for library trustee must have at least 50 signatures on their petition from the district residents.

Although Strong did collect 55 signatures, seven of those should not be considered as the pages were missing vital information, according to Mooi. The board found that the pages of his petition did not mention that he was seeking election for the office of the library trustee. He also did not provide his complete address and listed the special district as Bolingbrook, rather than Fountaindale Public Library District.

Thus, once the seven signatures are removed, he is only left with 48.

The board also found that Strong identifies the seat sought as being a 4-year term, when it is actually for six years. On the basis of these objections, the Will County Clerk's Office ordered the district to not print his name on the ballot for the April 6 election.
