Increased Lead Levels Found in Water at 3 Valley View Facilities
All of the water sources have been taken off line and plans are underway to replace them.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Several water sources at three Valley View schools had an increased presence of lead, according to the school district.
While testing showed lead levels were under the federal standard of 15 parts per billion at Bolingbrook High School, four of the five middle schools, every elementary school, the Administration Center complex, the Transportation Center and the Maintenance Center, several water sources at three of VVSD’s oldest facilities, Romeoville High School, Brooks Middle School and the Print Shop, exceeded the standard.
All of those water sources have been taken off line and plans are underway to replace them.

“Our foremost concern is maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff which is why we decided to conduct these voluntary tests,” said VVSD Superintendent Dr. James A. Mitchem Jr.
Samples were taken in late October and early November and sent to the McHenry Analytical Laboratory. VVSD received the results this week. The test results indicate VVSD district-wide lead levels are similar to those reported by other school districts in the Chicago area, according to the district.

The Environmental Protection Agency has indicated that lead in drinking water is rarely the sole cause of lead poisoning.
Results of the VVSD testing are expected to be posted at www.vvsd.org later Wednesday.
