IPIC Theaters Lays Off 39 Workers In Bolingbrook Due To Pandemic

BOLINGBROOK, IL — More than 30 employees at the IPIC Theaters in Bolingbrook are out of a job after the company temporarily furloughed or permanently laid them off.

IPIC Theaters LLC notified the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in August that it was temporarily furloughing 6 employees at the renowned entertainment venue. It also permanently laid off 33 employees

Under the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act — better known as the WARN Act — companies must notify the state when they plan mass layoffs or closures.

The 39 former IPIC employees were among at least 2,347 Illinois employees who permanently lost their jobs or were temporarily furloughed during August. In almost all cases, companies cited "COVID-19" as their reason for laying off workers.

A spokesperson for IPIC did not immediately respond Thursday to Patch's request for comment about the layoffs.
