Memorial Day 2013 in Bolingbrook: Grey Core Carnival, Services, Boardman Cemetery Tours

It's almost Memorial Day in Bolingbrook -- that means the 22nd annual Grey Core Carnival, tours of the Boardman Cemetery and memorial services by Bolingbrook's VFW Post #5917.

Grey Core Carnival, Thursday through Monday
The 22nd annual Annual Bolingbrook Grey Core Carnival will take place May 23 to 27.

Bolingbrook Grey Core is a non-profit community organization that fundraises to support community projects and scholarships in Bolingbrook. Proceeds from the carnival will finance a new picnic shelter to be built forJames Meyer Park.
Grey Core has already constructed two picnic shelters at Meyer Park, with proceeds from previous carnivals and has worked with the Village of Bolingbrook for the addition and design of the third shelter.
Carnival Details
The carnival will be held at Bolingbrook Village Hall, 375 W. Briarcliff Road, Memorial Day weekend from Thursday, May 23, through May 27, 2013. There is no cover charge or admittance fee to attend. Ride tickets can be purchased for $1 each, with discounts available when purchasing a sheet of 44 tickets. The carnival will be open to the public for rides, games, food and family fun during the following days/times:
- Thursday, May 23, from 6 to 10 p.m.
- Friday, May 24 from 6 to 11 p.m.
- Saturday, May 25, from 1 to 11 p.m.
- Sunday, May 26, from 1 to 11 p.m.
- Monday, May 27, from 1 to 10 p.m.
There will also be unlimited ride specials available for $20 per person during the following days/times:
- Thursday, May 23, from 6 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday, May 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.
- Sunday, May 26, from 1 to 5 p.m.
- Monday, May 27, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Memorial Day Services
Three Memorial Day services will be held in Bolingbrook Monday. The first will begin at 10 a.m. at Boardman Cemetary, located off Royce Road on Paxson Drive.
Another will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, 384 E. Boughton Road (East of Fire Station #3), and at the Town Center Veterans' Memorial at 11 a.m. at 375 W. Briarcliff Rd.
The American Legion and Bolingbrook VFW Post #5917 will lead these ceremonies.
Public Tours of Boardman Cemetery, Monday
Boardman Cemetery, a historic Bolingbrook burying ground, will be open to the public for tours on Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cemetery is located off Royce Road on Paxson Drive.
The Bolingbrook V.F.W. and the American Legion will start off the day with a memorial service at the cemetery at 10 a.m. At least one Civil War veteran is buried at Boardman. Members of the Bolingbrook Historic Preservation Commission will be available to answer questions about the cemetery's history after.
Debra Dudek and the Fountaindale Public Library are presenting biographical displays of local Civil War veterans. David Overeem, of havehistorywilltravel@yahoo.com, is bringing his traveling museum of Civil War artifacts and displays. Mark and Jane Lipp, descendants of Henry and Lois Ingalls, will be on hand to unveil the newly restored Ingalls monument after the Veterans’ ceremony. The Library displays and David Overeem's exhibits will be available while the cemetery gates are open.
