Mobile DMV Coming To Bolingbrook

To make driver services easier, a mobile DMV is coming to the Levy Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 10.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Long wait lines, humid temperatures and the coronavirus pandemic have all played into people's decisions on when to renew their driver's license. To help matters and ease burdens, State Rep. Dagmara Avelar is hosting a mobile DMV unit July 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The representative from Bolingbrook announced Tuesday she encourages residents in need of quick fixes — including renewals and license plate stickers — will stop by the unit, which will be located at the Levy Senior Center, 251 Canterbury Lane.

"A trip to the DMV can be extremely difficult to manage for seniors, those who have difficulty walking or for anyone who works throughout the week," Avelar said in a statement. "With this mobile DMV, I’m hoping we can bring these necessary services to residents in a more easy and efficient way."

Services that will be provided at the mobile DMV include renewing or correcting driver's licenses and state IDs, getting license plate stickers, and registering for motor voters and organ donors with renewals.

For some services, people will still have to go to the DMV with proper identification. Real ID-compliant driver's licenses and ID cards have to be processed at a facility, and seniors ages 75 and older need to go to the DMV to renew their licenses, according to a news release.

Illinois' deadline for renewing licenses has been pushed back a few times since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, and the latest change came Monday when the secretary of state extended the deadline another five months to Jan. 1, 2022.

The previous extension was Aug. 1, but Jesse White's office said it was concerned with people being stuck in long lines outside in the heat over the next couple months, Patch reported.
