The "grand opening" of the new micro pantry will be on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 12:00pm to kick off National Library Week at the Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook. The project has been in the works for a few months now. Local Bolingbrook residents Scott Silmon and Ashley Silmon Rodriguez designed, fabricated, and funded this project.

This family is no stranger to community service. Scott's mom, Frances Silmon (deceased), started the crossing guard program in the village over 40 years ago. Ashley's husband, Gibran Rodriguez, is a volunteer soccer coach for the Bolingbrook Raiders Soccer Club. Their family is always looking for ideas and opportunities to serve others in the community.

"We think this is such an amazing community and wanted to add something special that would give back and serve many in need," said Ashley. She was very thankful to the Staff and Board of the Fountaindale Public Library and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger C. Claar for being supportive of this idea. The Silmon family thinks this will be a great way to bring the community closer together by allowing everyone who was willing and able, to be a part of serving others.

The micro pantry is located outside the main entrance of the library at 300 W. Briarcliff Road. The library is offering a program called "Food for Fines," which will give patrons $2 off library late fees for every item donated to the pantry. The pantry accepts non-perishable food items, along with toiletries. Anyone can donate or take items at any time, without the need to speak to anyone.
