James Anthony Bernas

Age 78, of Joliet, IL and formerly of the Bolingbrook and Romeoville, IL area, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019. He was born December 10, 1940 in Chicago to the late Stella (nee Komskis) and Anthony John Bernas. James was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran and retired from Chicago Metallic Corp as a Supervisor after many years of dedicated service. Quite the handyman, James could fix anything and everything. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed going fishing. James’ best days were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren that he absolutely adored, and finishing the evening with a glass of his favorite port wine.

He was the beloved husband of nearly 55 years to Doris (nee Kelley) Bernas; loving father of Cynthia (Eric) Moyes, Vincent (Cherlyn) Bernas, Michael (Rebecca) Bernas, Victoria LaParry, Sean (Sandra) Bernas, Steven Bernas, the late Anthony James Bernas and Cheryl (Joseph) Christian; grandfather of Ryan (Michelle), Erica and Krysta Moyes, Travis (Whitney) Bernas, Leah (Steven) Sanders and Evan Bernas, Shelby, Joshua and Mark Bernas, Brandon, Anthony, Emily and Joseph LaParry, Nathan, Connor and Nicholas Bernas, and Jack, Anna and Stella Christian; great grandfather of Eli and Boen; brother of Judith (Charles) McMahon and Edward (Jeanne) Bernas.

He was preceded by one son; his parents; and one brother, Matthew Bernas.

Visitation for James Anthony Bernas will be Wednesday, June 12, 2019, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds, Joliet. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Saint Casimir Catholic Cemetery, Chicago.
