Partnership between nonprofit, utility and business is a work of
Arts Council paying artists, Illinois American Water providing "canvases" and The Promenade is the "gallery" for public project

The Bolingbrook Arts Council, in partnership with Illinois American Water and The Promenade Bolingbrook, is creating a unique public art program for the Bolingbrook community: paying local professional artists to paint selected hydrants around the walking areas of The Promenade Bolingbrook.
“The Council is very excited by this project,” said Mithra Zaucha, Council chair. “We are very grateful to partner with Illinois American Water and The Promenade Bolingbrook, who are equally excited about this fun and unique project."
With almost all events cancelled in 2020 the Arts Council had to find creative ways to maintain the relevance of the arts during the year.

“We thought this would be a good time to move forward with our public art initiatives,” said Zaucha. “With so many in the arts community financially hit by the aftermath of COVID-19, we’re especially proud that we are providing a paid opportunity for some of our local artists. It’s part of our mission: create a culture in Bolingbrook that embraces and financially supports working artists and artist groups.”
Painting on the fire hydrants starts on Kick-off Day, Saturday, October 24, at Noon. The public is welcome to walk around and see the artists transform something industrial and utilitarian into works of art. Kick-Off Day is part of The Promenade’s annual Fall Festival weekend October 23-25.
