WGU To Host Free Webinar on Career Advancement August 24 at Noon

A local expert will be a featured speaker during the webinar, the second of a three-part series

Western Governors University (WGU) has announced plans for the second of a three-part webinar series aimed at addressing changes in higher education and the workforce as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The second webinar, titled “Control your Destiny: Career Advancement Via Online Learning,” will be held Aug. 24 at noon. The 60-minute webinar is free and open to the public and will feature a panel of WGU graduates from throughout the country who will share their career-related decisions and successes and provide insight on how they are navigating the workforce during these unprecedented times.

A local expert will be among the speakers highlighted in Monday’s webinar. Timothy Mulcahey, of Darien, is a senior business analyst with Chicago-based consulting firm The William Everett Group, working at O’Hare International Airport and serving as the primary point of contact for the Chicago Department of Aviation. Mulcahey earned an undergraduate degree in education from WGU and graduated with his MBA from the online, nonprofit university in 2014.

  • Christopher Abbey, Incident Handler Manager, Red Canary in Denver
  • Dustin Beasley, Global Business Manager, T-Mobile in Springfield, Mo.
  • Gussie Hopkins, Certified Project Manager, Stratix Corporation in Georgia

Mitsu Frazier, VP Academic Operations for WGU’s College of Business, will serve as moderator. At the end of the webinar, there will be an opportunity for individuals to participate in an open discussion and ask questions.

The “Control your Destiny: Career Advancement Via Online Learning” webinar is part of WGU’s “Ambition Never Rests” webinar series, which launched last month. The first, 60-minute webinar was held July 16 and addressed the “State of Workforce Development Across Industries.” The final episode of the series will take place Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. and is titled “How to Advance and Retain your Workforce.” Speakers and moderator for the final webinar will be announced at a later date.

All sessions will be recorded, and a link of each recording will be shared with webcast registrants after each session. Each session is valid for one Professional Development Credit (PDC) through SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP®.
