The Bolingbrook STEM Association is proud to host their “Winter Break STEM Camp” in collaboration with Purdue University Northwest on January 2 & 3, 2020. The camp will run from 9:00am to Noon and will be hosted at the Bolingbrook Community Center (201-B Canterbury Lane Bolingbrook, IL 60440). This camp’s topics will be coding and robotics and is designed for children ages 5 to 18. The registration fee is $40 for both days or $20 per day. Registration is available at http://bolingbrookstem.org/winter-camp/ . Students in need of scholarships or financial assistance can e-mail info@bolingbrookstem.org.

During the camp, students ages 5 to 7 will experience Lego WeDo. LEGO Education WeDo is a hands-on STEM solution that combines the LEGO brick, classroom-friendly software, engaging standards-based projects and a discovery-based approach. Designed with collaboration in mind, while introducing students to computational thinking and engineering principles in a fun and engaging way.

Students ages 8 to 11, 12 to 14, and 15 to 18 will experience Lego MindStorms and Fanuc Robots. Lego Mindstorms is a hardware and software platform which is produced by Lego for the development of programmable robots based on Lego building blocks. Each version of the system includes an intelligent brick computer that controls the system, a set of modular sensors and motors, and Lego parts from the Technic line to create the mechanical systems. FANUC robots are linked up to a single internet network or computer and have a robot software downloaded. Coded commands are essential for controlling the machines through the use of different programming languages.
