Burr Ridge Sees Surge In Coronavirus Cases

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge saw a 13 percent spike in coronavirus cases over the last week, according to county health authorities. As of Sunday, the village had seen 388 cases since the pandemic's beginning, up 46 from a week before.

Other towns are seeing similar weekly increases — Darien and Clarendon Hills (18 percent), La Grange and Western Springs (15 percent), and Hinsdale (12 percent).

Unlike other towns, Burr Ridge has issued regular coronavirus updates since March, but it hasn't done so in two weeks, perhaps because of recent turbulence at Village Hall.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 36 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 22.6 in La Grange Park, 24.4 in Darien, 25.5 in Western Springs, 29.6 in Clarendon Hills, 30.3 in Hinsdale, 30.4 in Elmhurst, 30.6 in DuPage County, 34.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 35 in suburban Cook County.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 487,987, up 17 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 10,196 state residents.

Nationally, 9.8 million people have caught the virus, up 8 percent from the week before. A total of 236,547 people have died from the virus in the United States.
