Burr Ridge Virus Rate Hike Lower Than Other Towns

Rate increases are falling in Burr Ridge, figures show.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last week, Burr Ridge saw an 8 percent increase in coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to county health authorities. That's lower than the two previous weeks' hikes — 12 percent and 16 percent.

Burr Ridge's increase was also lower than nearby towns in the last week — 13 percent in Darien, Elmhurst, Clarendon Hills and Western Springs and 10 percent in La Grange and Hinsdale.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 546 cases, up by 40 from a week earlier, according to county health authorities. The virus has infected about 5 percent of the town's population.

Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had 25 coronavirus-related deaths, most of them at nursing homes.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 50.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 35.4 in La Grange Park, 39.6 in Darien, 41.2 in Western Springs, 41.7 in Hinsdale, 43.9 in Clarendon Hills, 46.9 in Elmhurst, 47.1 in DuPage County, 51.5 in suburban Cook County and 55.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 720,114, up 9.7 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 12,193 state residents.

Nationally, 13.1 million people have caught the virus, up 9.5 percent from the week before. A total of 265,166 people have died from the virus in the United States.
