Burr Ridge, Westmont Barbecue Restaurants Rack Up Accolades At Best Of West Rib Cook-Off

BURR RIDGE, IL — Three beloved restaurants in Burr Ridge and Westmont received two sauce-covered thumbs up from judges at the 29th annual Best Of The West Rib Cook-Off in Sparks. Nevada. Chicago BBQ in Burr Ridge made off with top honors, followed by Uncle Bub's of Westmont in second place. Fifth place went to Austin's Texas Lightning BBQ, another beloved Burr Ridge barbecue joint.

Nearly two dozen barbecue restaurants from around the country threw their hats in the ring for this year's six-day competition in the city's Victoria Square. To keep things fair, each participating restaurant used meat from the same vendor. According to Channel 4 News, the 13 judges were prohibited from sneaking even the smallest sample of ribs before the judging took place. Judges each sampled 11 different ribs in a blind taste test. Only five sets of ribs moved to the final round of the Best of the West Rib Cook-off, which found three west suburban restaurants coming out ahead of the rest.

Onlookers weren't stuck glaring with envy at the judges; they were able to buy their own ribs at the event, which seared over 240,000 pounds of ribs for eager meat eaters.
