Burr Ridge Will Get First McDonald's

The village board recently approved the development of a McDonald's off of Route 83.

BURR RIDGE, IL — The village board approved the development of a McDonald's, 9101 Kingery Highway at its May 14 meeting. The plan commission had previously discussed the restaurant, and had recommended approval at their May 7 meeting. At that meeting several residents had stated their opposition to the project, citing concerns of traffic and crime.

The restaurant will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., including the drive-through, due to resident concern of crime and light pollution.

According to board documents, resident Laurie Chang said she opposed the development, stating that it would bring down property values in Fallingwater subdivision nearby.

At the plan commission meeting, Maurice King, a real estate manager at McDonald's said that if property values had not already dropped due to Fallingwater's proximity to Route 83 and other commercial development, it was unlikely that McDonald's would change this.

Resident Ray Baldi shared his concerns of crimes, sharing that the existing McDonald's On Route 83 has issues, and a McDonald's shouldn't be brought into Burr Ridge, according to board documents.

Several other residents shared concerns about traffic on 91st Street, and feared that the restaurant would only worsen traffic.

According to board documents, the commission also concluded that while more traffic will be generated by McDonald's, recent improvements made to widen to 91st Street should be able to handle any additional traffic.
