Burr Ridge, Willowbrook Softball Holds Summer Blast Tournament

This year's event will have 40 teams from throughout DuPage, Cook, Will, Kane and Lake counties, as well as two Wisconsin teams.

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge Willowbrook Softball will hold the annual Summer Blast tournament for 14U, 16U and 18U teams around the area. According to the organization, BRW softball operates recreational leagues as well as the more elite Blast travel teams.

The annual tournament showcases high school-aged athletes from around the area. This year's event will have 40 teams from throughout DuPage, Cook, Will, Kane and Lake counties, as well as two Wisconsin teams. The tournament will be held July 5-8 and games will be played at: Borse Community Park on Midway Drive in Willowbrook, Hinsdale South High School’s Varsity and Junior Varsity fields, Walker Park at Wolf Road and 75th Street in Burr Ridge, and additional fields in Burr Ridge.

Tournament Director Bill Sullivan said the tournament is also offering something special for the first time. They will be offering the "BRW Fourth Inning Home Run Challenge" in the championship game for the 18U division.

"Any batter in the 4th inning of Saturday night’s 18U Championship Game who manages to hit the first home run of the inning over the 4 foot tall, 200 foot fence will receive a $5,000 college scholarship," Sullivan said.
