Burr Ridge's Virus Per Capita Rate Higher Than Neighbors Surveyed

Mayor asks residents to continue following guidelines. Doing so, he says, would bring more good news.

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge's per capita coronavirus rate is now the highest among the nearby towns surveyed by Patch, according to an analysis of health department numbers. It is also above the rates in both DuPage County and suburban Cook County.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 25.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 14 in La Grange Park, 14.7 in Darien, 17.4 in Western Springs, 18.5 in Clarendon Hills, 18.8 in Elmhurst, 18.9 in DuPage County, 22 in Hinsdale, 24 in suburban Cook County and 24.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

In the last week, Burr Ridge saw 19 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 274. Much of the village's caseload comes from nursing homes.

Burr Ridge's pandemic-related deaths have numbered 23, government figures show. That number has remained unchanged in recent weeks.

More than a week ago, DuPage County was taken off the state Department of Public Health's warning list. The county was placed on the list Sept. 11.

"We must use masks, avoid large gatherings and socially distance per the governor’s executive order," Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso said in a statement Friday. "Abiding by this simple guidance will bring continued good news."

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 287,930, up 5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,601 state residents.

Nationally, 7.1 million people have caught the virus, up 5 percent from the week before. A total of 204,033 people have died from the virus in the United States.
