'Caution Flag' For DuPage County: Burr Ridge Mayor

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso said Friday he was concerned with DuPage County when it comes to the coronavirus. In a statement, he noted new cases are rising quickly and that the state recently placed the county on its warning list.

"Those are numbers trending in the wrong direction and result in me raising the caution flag," Grasso said in the statement. "The virus is persistent and simply will not subside."

In Burr Ridge, however, only a small increase in cases was reported in the last week. The caseload numbered 241 as of Sunday, up 4 percent from the previous week, according to county health authorities.

Burr Ridge's pandemic-related deaths have numbered 23, government figures show. That number has remained unchanged in recent weeks.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 22.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 12.9 in Darien, 13.8 in La Grange Park, 15.2 in Western Springs, 16.1 in Elmhurst, 16.7 in Clarendon Hills, 17.3 in DuPage County, 20.5 in Hinsdale, 22.4 in Burr Ridge and 22.4 in suburban Cook County, and 22.7 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 261,371, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,309 state residents.

Nationally, 6.5 million people have caught the virus, up 3 percent from the week before. A total of 193,195 people have died from the virus in the United States.
