Hot and muggy temperatures are expected to hit the Chicago area this weekend.
Temperatures around 90 degrees are expected in for Friday and Saturday and heat index values could reach as high as 105 degrees on Friday and 107 degrees on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat is expected to continue into Sunday.
There will be a periodic chance of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday with a greater chance of storms Saturday night and Sunday.

Heat Safety Tips: Never Leave Child Unattended in Backseat
With extreme heat in the forecast, the National Weather Service is reminding parents to remember to check their backseat and never leave children unattended in a vehicle.
A child’s body can absorb more heat on a hot day than adult’s body does. And temperatures inside a car on a 90-degree day can climb to 120 to 150 degrees within minutes.
Heatstroke can begin when the core body temperature reaches 104 degrees.
Other Heat Safety Tips
Other tips to keep in mind on a hot day:
- Slow down: Reduce, eliminate or reschedule outdoor activity
- Dress for summer: Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
- Drink plenty of water: And avoid caffienated and alcoholic beverages
- Spend more time in air-conditioned places
- Don’t get too much sun
