King-Bruwaert House earns Great Place to Work certification

Employees share positive feedback about their workplace

King-Bruwaert House (KBH), an established senior living community in Burr Ridge, has received a Great Place to Work certification following the results of an October, 2020 staff survey. Great Place to Work, an independent research and consulting company, evaluated more than 60 aspects of staff job experiences at KBH. Employees rated workplace practices that focused on KBH community impact and meaningful work that makes a difference and positively impacts others.

The certification process considered the results from 133 employee surveys that represented all KBH departments. Highlights from the survey were:

• 91% of employees responded that KBH is a great place to work. (This compares to 59% nationwide among U.S. businesses).

• 97% of staff confirmed their work has special meaning

• 94% responded favorably in feeling a sense of pride with KBH accomplishments

• 94% are proud to tell others that they work at KBH

• 92% feel good about the ways KBH contributes to the community

• 92% responded that they were made to feel welcome when they joined KBH

Employees were also asked to use descriptive words when assessing the qualities of a great workplace. Among the terms included with staff comments were: “dedication,” “exceptional team”, “respectful,” “appreciated,” “caring,” “making a difference”, “history”, “culture” and “wonderful home”.

“We are very proud of the results of our Great Place to Work survey,” said KBH CEO Terri Bowen. “This certification recognizes that our employee work experiences are very positive and our staff takes tremendous pride in being an integral part of our organization. We have always followed a strong mission and philosophy that supports the importance of hiring dedicated, qualified, professional and caring staff. We know our employees go above and beyond to ensure the safety, well-being, and happiness of all our residents. They believe that our practices and insights make KBH an exceptional workplace that encourages the highest levels of service, as well as personal pride.”

They survey was administered during a two-week period by Great Place to Work in cooperation with the KBH Human Resources Department. Of the 133 employees who responded to the survey, 31% have tenure ranging from 11- to 30 years.

“We applaud King-Bruwaert House for seeking certification and releasing employees’ feedback to the public,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Kung of GPTW’s senior care affiliate, Activated Insights. “These ratings measure KBH’s capacity to earn its employees’ trust in creating a great workplace for high performance.”
