King-Bruwaert House plans reopening of memory care neighborhood

Suzanne's Place to focus on person-centered care and services

King-Bruwaert House announces the reopening of Suzanne’s Place, a premier memory care neighborhood that focuses on person-centered care and services. The nine-room care center, located in a beautiful setting, has been redesigned to offer larger, brighter rooms with private baths in close proximity to a 24-hour nursing station, spacious dining room with fireplace, cozy family room for individual or group activities and two enclosed, secure landscaped courtyards.

Suzanne’s Place care team members work round-the-clock shifts and complete training to become Certified Dementia Practitioners to keep them current with trends, ethics, regulations, new and existing medications and promising trends relating to memory care and dementia. The team undergoes additional training to maintain the practitioner certification. They also receive regular in-service training on a variety of dementia-related topics.

New residents undergo a detailed assessment that will be used to create a personal Plan of Care. This person-centered care approach considers an individual’s innermost feelings, spiritual beliefs, likes, dislikes and past occupational or community interests to assist with ongoing support and memory-driven activities. These lifelong values are important in reaching a shared understanding for treatment, support and care. Residents are always encouraged to retain as much independence as possible and to participate in a variety of activities ideally suited to their needs, interests and capabilities. Three nutritious, delicious meals are served daily that are inclusive of food service preferences and/or dietary directives provided to our excellent culinary team. Group dining experiences connect residents each day, while also fostering new and meaningful friendships. A quality lifestyle in a safe environment becomes paramount to maintaining a resident’s health and wellness.

Five daily therapeutic group programs will focus on dimensions of wellness, social interaction and evening activities. Weather permitting, 1- to 2 community outings will be scheduled each month that will include local places of interest. Alternative programs such as music, art, pet and laughter therapies will also be scheduled monthly.

Regular meetings between staff, residents, family members and other representatives helps to build a relationship of trust and shared vision. Meeting the emotional, physical, social, spiritual and intellectual needs of the individual helps to sustain a higher quality of life for as long as possible. The goal is to identify the right services, activities, medications and care initiatives that will best serve the resident, while also recognizing their wishes.
