Rainfall Rates High in DuPage County in Past 24 Hours

High rainfall rates were recorded in several DuPage County locations.

Rainfall has been no stranger to the Chicago suburbs in recent days.

In DuPage County, high rainfall rates were recorded at Carol Stream WWTF, which had 3.26 inches of rain in the past day, and at the Elmhurst Quarry in Elmhurst, which saw 3.03 inches of rain in 24 hours.

The National Accelerator Lab near West Chicago recorded the highest rainfall rate in the past 24 hours with 4.37 inches of rain. Mill Creek near Batavia saw 3.96 inches of rain in the past day while the DuPage County Airport near St. Charles had 3.23 inches of rain.

Kane County has seen the highest rainfall rates in the past 24 hours following severe weather on Monday, according to data collected by the Illinois U.S. Geological Survey website.

It’s been a rainy week. In the past seven days, the DuPage River near Plainfield recorded the highest rainfall rate of 15.3 inches, according to the USGS data. The National Accelerator Lab near West Chicago had 6.35 inches of rain in the past week.

Meanwhile, river levels have begun to rise.

Moderate flooding is being reported on the Des Plaines River at Riverside, according to the National Weather Service. The flood stage is seven feet and as of 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 8 feet.

The East Branch of the DuPage River in Bolingbrook also recorded moderate flooding Tuesday morning. The flood stage is 19.5 feet and as of 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 20.98 feet.

Several other rivers were nearing flood stage in the Chicago area. Visit the National Weather Service to check the status of a river in your area.

A flood warning remained in effect for much of the Chicago area through 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
