Plans moving ahead for new KBH construction projects
New independent living apartment homes to include services and amenities

Plans are progressing for a much-anticipated construction project that will bring exciting changes to the King-Bruwaert House campus located at 6101 S. County Line Road in Burr Ridge. With preliminary zoning and planning approvals from the Village of Burr Ridge, The Gardens of King-Bruwaert House (KBH) project will advance to the next stages to bring a 144,000 square-foot independent living project to the sprawling 35-acre site. Plans call for 49 apartment homes to be built featuring bright, open floor plans, scenic views and excellent dining options, services and amenities. The three-story, all-masonry Georgian architectural-theme building will also include secured underground parking, a dining room with pub, spacious multi-purpose room that will be used for group gatherings, plus a fitness studio and spa.
All Gardens residents will have access to landscaped courtyards with outdoor seating. The new homes are located in close proximity to a 1-1/2-mile walking path adjacent to two ponds, a bridge, gardens and a fenced-in dog park. Residents will also have convenient interior access to King-Bruwaert House’s original manor home and a medical clinic. Completion of the apartment homes is expected in 2022.
As a separate phase of the campus changes, King-Bruwaert House will move forward with a major renovation and expansion of its existing Healthcare (skilled nursing) unit. Three 14-bed pods will be reconstructed on the northeast side of the manor home. One of the pods will be dedicated to memory and dementia care. All of the pods will feature private rooms and baths, while still providing options for couples to live together. The new Healthcare wing will include dining rooms, living rooms and other areas for family and friends to visit, and outside patios with memory gardens.

“Our Board of Directors and management team have been discussing the need for these projects for many years,” said CEO Terri Bowen. “Interest has been especially strong for our independent living communities that have had long wait lists for people who have shown great interest in becoming part of our King-Bruwaert House family. We look forward to breaking ground, expanding our reach and welcoming new residents to our community.”
With the current pandemic, King-Bruwaert House has made every effort to continue safe practices for the protection of residents and staff.
