Popcorn Smoke, Sauna Dispute: Burr Ridge Cops

A business that sells popcorn found its burnt product causing a problem, police say.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent days, Burr Ridge police handled cases involving a popcorn smoke, a fitness center dispute, solicitors without permits, a mask issue, a suspicious SUV, the burning of yard waste and a loud party. Here is information from the police reports:

Popcorn smoke

  • Tri-State Fire District was called because of a large amount of smoke coming from Double Good, 16W030 83rd St., about 1 p.m. April 6. The smoke was caused by a large amount of burnt popcorn. Tri-State wet down the popcorn. Double Good sells popcorn products.

Fitness center dispute

  • LifeTime fitness center, 601 Burr Ridge Parkway, reported about 6:30 p.m. April 6 that two guests got into an argument over the sauna. Both guests were leaving for the day.

Soliciting without permits

  • Kyle G. Hlavaty, Michael K. Klank and Daniel R. Rascich, were cited about 3 p.m. April 6 after they admitted to selling door to door without a permit. They were working for Illinois Energy Windows & Siding Inc.

  • Police received a call about a woman at 4 p.m. April 9 who was walking in the roadway near Madison Street and Clubside Court. The woman, a senior citizen who did not speak much English, said she was picking up trash from the street while on her walk. She was asked to stay out of the street for safety reasons.

Mask issue

  • A security guard at Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge, 6800 N. Frontage Road, became upset about 9 a.m. Saturday when a person was not wearing his mask properly and had his hands hidden in his pants. The guard wanted the man to wait outside while his girlfriend finished her appointment, which the man agreed to do. The man and his girlfriend left the property shortly after.

'Too slow for his liking'

  • A caller told police about 10:30 p.m. Saturday that a black man with a leather jacket was walking "too slow for his liking" in the 7300 block of Madison Street. A Burr Ridge officer joined a Willowbrook officer in searching the area, but only saw a white woman walking her dog. The caller's number was fake.

Suspicious SUV

  • A resident in the 7700 block of Hamilton Avenue told police at midnight April 8 about a white SUV that backed out of a driveway and parked on the side of the road. When police arrived, the SUV driver pulled away. The officers followed the SUV, but the person did not commit any traffic violations.

Burning yard waste

  • New homeowners in the 15W500 block of 87th Street were burning yard waste about 7 p.m. Monday. They said the fire would be out soon and that they would not burn yard waste anymore.

Loud party

  • A resident in the 800 block of Ambriance Drive informed police about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday about loud music at a nearby address. Someone from the house said he was having a party and that he would stop playing the music.
