#WAPink: This is For You, Ladies, You Got Game
Walker Athletics announces new #WAPink Basketball Tournament series.

LISLE, IL – There is no doubt that Billy Jean King feels a sense of accomplishment in light of the current success of female athletes and athletic competition. Taking the main stage this year includes the likes of the Women’s US World Cup champions (four of whom play for the Chicago Red Stars), Serena Williams’ 6th Wimbledon title, the fiercely competitive Ronda Rousey Womens UFC Champion, and the fabulous season of the Chicago Sky’s Ellena Della Donne. If you have seen Ellena’s three point shot, the phrase, “shooting like a girl” isn’t such a bad idea!
In fact, Walker Athletics is proud to announce its #WAPink campaign and its inaugural “Shoot Like a Girl” basketball tournament. This is the first series of travel season basketball tournaments developed exclusively for the young female athlete. Yes, ladies. We Got Game.
We could not be more excited. Walker athletics’ first all-girl tournament this past March, in collaboration with the Sears Centre, provided the NCAA Women’s Big 10 Tournament with the most spectators in its history while giving young female athletes the opportunity to play in tandem.

It is with great pleasure that Walker Athletics announces the #WAPink tournament series to include: “Shoot Like A Girl” Saturday, January 23rd; “Cinderella Shootout” Sunday, January 31st; “Lovin’ the Lay-ups” Saturday, February 6th and Sunday, February 7th; and the season-ending “She Got Game” Saturday, March 5th and Sunday, March 6th.
In alignment with junior high school associations that limit the amount of quarters that a student-athlete can participate in to 8 and USA Basketball’s long-term athlete development model, #WAPink events will provide 2 games (8 quarters) on any given day. All too often, we see repetitive trauma injuries and burn-out from single-sport activity without the opportunity to use other muscles groups from different sports. By taking the 2-game approach, we are providing teams with an opportunity to properly split training time and game play time as well as prevent injuries.
