Aldi Store Manager Finds Wedding Ring, Hopes To Return To Owner

The gold wedding band left behind at the Crystal Lake store was found on Saturday.

The ring, which was found on a ledge behind the produce table, could have been misplaced months ago or as recently as this past week, Backe told Patch. It is engraved with the couple's initials and their wedding day, which was May 19, 1990.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The hunt is on to track down the owner of a wedding ring left behind at the Aldi in Crystal Lake.

Tammy Backe, a manager at the store at 5831 Northwest Highway, found the ring over the weekend while deep cleaning some produce tables. Now she's hoping to return it to its rightful owner.

"That is 31 years of marriage," she wrote. "So let's find the owner so I can give them back their ring."

Backe shared information about the missing ring on Saturday on her Facebook page, as well as TheALDINerd.com Community Facebook page, which has 1.4 million followers. The post and information on the missing ring has been shared well over 10,000 times on Facebook. But as of Tuesday morning, the owner had not been located, she said.

Backe said the response from local residents, as well as strangers who've shared her post online, has been overwhelming and heartwarming. She said shoppers have been checking in with employees at the Crystal Lake Aldi to see if the ring had been returned.

"I didn't realize how big of support we would get from everyone," she said Tuesday. "It's just of crazy how nice everyone is in trying to get the word out."

Backe has not publicly shared the initials engraved on the ring because she wants to use that information to identify the owners if they come forward.

Backe has had people reach out wondering if it could be their lost ring, but Backe said their initials did not match the initials on the ring. She says the initials have three letters with a heart in between each letter.

Anyone who knows who the ring may belong to can send Tammy a direct message via Facebook.
