Algonquin-Cary Subarea Plan Adopted

The Algonquin-Cary Subarea Plan has been formally adopted by the Village Boards of both communities. The plan is designed to create a vision to restore and develop land along the Route 31 corridor previously used for sand and gravel mining. As the plan is implemented, downtown Algonquin, Cary, the Prairie Trail, the Fox Bluff Conservation Area, Rotary Park, and the Fox River will all be connected by a transportation network that includes pedestrian and bicycle improvements.

The subarea plan was developed through the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) Local Technical Assistance Program. In addition to representatives from both communities, the plan was drafted with the assistance of other local agencies including the McHenry County Division of Transportation, Cary Park District, McHenry County Conservation District, McHenry County Planning and Development Department, and Lafarge Holcim, Ltd. The final plan can be reviewed on the project website.
