Crystal Lake, Cary Climb Above 0

Crystal Lake and Cary experienced positive temperatures for the first time in nearly 40 hours as the mercury climbed to 2 above zero shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

As of the 3:52 p.m. update, Cary remained at 3 with a -9 degree wind chill, but Crystal Lake's official temp had slipped back to 0 degrees with a -13 wind chill. 

Beyond this evening, the current forecast no longer calls for sub-zero daytime temperatures in the seven-day predictions and a high of 10 is forecast for Wednesday.

Later this week, it's going to feel like a heat wave when temps climb to 35 degrees Friday (and a wintery mix of rain and snow is forecast). Saturday calls for a high of 36, according to the NWS. 

Area schools and other organizations are expected to be open Wednesday.
