LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the 18-year-old Volo woman killed in a crash last week as Magdalene Bonefas. Preliminary autopsy results show she died of blunt force injuries caused by the automobile crash, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies were called at 7:15 a.m. on July 31 to the crash site on Route 12 just north of Case Road, where they found the driver who reportedly wasn't wearing a seat belt during the crash, and was critically injured. The driver, who was later identified as Bonefas, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Bonefas was a 2019 grad of Wauconda High School and a summer/seasonal school district employee.

More details from a preliminary crash investigation revealed the 2000 GMC pickup truck driven by Bonefas was carrying a sealcoating tank as it headed north, when the driver for reasons unknown drove off the east side of the road and over corrected, likely causing the truck to roll.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
