​Crystal Lake Coach Named Chicago Bears' 'Coach Of The Week'

The Crystal Lake Central High School football program will receive a $2,000 donation from the Bears.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Crystal Lake Central High School's football program is $2,000 richer this week after its coach was named the Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week.

Jon McLaughlin, Crystal Lake Central's head coach, was chosen as coach of the week after leading the Tigers to a 14-13 overtime victory against Prairie Ridge on Friday, the Bears said in a news release.

According to the release, Friday's win was Crystal Lake's first victory over Prairie Ridge since 2012 The win pushed the Tigers into the No. 10 spot for 6A schools.

McLaughlin served as the Tigers' coach from 2004 to 2009. He returned to Crystal Lake in 2015, where he continues to coach and teach social sciences.

Crystal Lake will host McHenry on Friday.

The Bears will also make a $500 donation to a football program chosen by Alex "Gary" Moller, who plays quarterback/corner back for Prospect High School in Mount Prospect.

Moller this week was named the Bears High School All-Star based on his field performance, community involvement and good sportsmanship, the Bears said.

In a Friday game against Hersey, Moller threw four touchdowns and ran for another one. He also ran back an interception with less than four minutes left in the game. Prospect beat Hersey 49 to 29 Friday.
