CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - Face painting, balloons, police and fire vehicles, a canine demonstration, games and free giveaways will await Crystal Lake residents next week as local law enforcement officials host National Night Out.
The free, annual soiree kicks off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Three Oaks Recreational Area, 5517 Northwest Highway. National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that gives community and local law enforcement officials an opportunity to gather to promote neighborhood spirit, partnerships and safety.

Among the evenings offerings are free bicycle and helmet fittings from staff members at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. Culver's will be selling hamburger, cheeseburger and hot dog meals — they include a free scoop of custard — for just $4.50, and event coordinators will be giving away gift bags while supplies last.
