Crystal Lake Home Uninhabitable After Christmas Day Fire

$20,000 in damage estimated in fire that started beneath master bathroom on Chestnut Lane Monday.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A Christmas Day fire that broke out in the crawl space of a house in the 6000 block of Chestnut Lane caused $20,000 in damage, according to the Crystal Lake Fire Department. A 911 call was placed at 12:15 p.m., and firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the master bathroom in the back of the house.

The fire was put out in about 30 minutes, and the house was deemed uninhabitable by the McHenry County planning department until repairs can be made, according to a news release from the fire department. No one was injured in the Monday fire.
