The city has allocated $70,000 to help sales-tax generating businesses transition to meet the sanitation standards of reopening.

The City is here to support and help your business reopen! On May 27, 2020, the City Council held a Special City Council meeting to approve a COVID-19 Business Transition Grant Program and allocated $70,000 for sales tax generating businesses to help them transition their businesses to meet the physical distancing and sanitation standards for reopening. Local businesses help create jobs, boost the economy and enhance the community. Crystal Lake is proud to have so many unique businesses spread throughout our community making Crystal Lake a desirable place to live, work and play. This program will enable the City to expand its financial assistance programs and assist small businesses negatively impacted by COVID-19 by helping them with the unexpected expenses of altering their business to meet new required health and safety guidelines. Applications are available on the City’s website.

  • Must be a tax generating business with sales up to $4 million.
  • Business must generate walk-in traffic.
  • Reimbursement for capital improvements for physical distancing and sanitation due to COVID-19 up to $1,000 per applicant.
  • Franchise businesses, home-based businesses, home occupation businesses and businesses with more than 3 business units do not qualify.

Examples of Protective Enhancements Include:

  • Plexiglass Enhancements
  • Sanitation Stations
  • Walk-up Windows
  • Separations for Entrance/Exits
  • Face Coverings
  • Signage for Traffic Flow or Distance Dots

Additionally, the State of Illinois is on track to have a limited reopening of businesses starting Friday, May 29th. Restaurants will be permitted to have outside dining (physical distancing and other restrictions will apply). The City of Crystal Lake is encouraging any restaurants interested in adding outdoor seating to their location to please contact the Community Development Department (815) 356-3605 so we can work with you on a site plan to add outdoor seating to your restaurant location.
