Crystal Lake Police Encourage Parents to Have Child Passenger Safety Seats Checked
Crystal Lake Police Department reports that approximately 90 percent of child safety seats are incorrectly installed.

From Crystal Lake Police:
Among all the planning and arrangements you’ve made for this Thanksgiving, don’t forget to include having your child seat(s) checked and installed by one of our car seat technicians before you begin your holiday travels.
Approximately 90 percent of child safety seats are installed incorrectly. In an effort to correct this and help educate parents, the Crystal Lake Police Department has partnered with Anderson Volkswagen, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, and Safe Kids McHenry County to host a free child safety seat inspection. This event will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Anderson Volkswagen, 5213 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL.

Events such as these are designed to increase awareness and the proper use of child safety seats. When used correctly, child safety seats are one of the most important tools to safeguard children when travelling in motor vehicles. Involvement in traffic crashes is a leading cause of death and serious injury to children under the age of 16. Proper use of child safety seats is one of the simplest yet most conscientious ways we as parents and adult caregivers can reduce the likelihood of children being injured or killed in motor vehicle crashes.
Child Passenger Seat Safety technicians will be available to educate and assist parents and caregivers with the correct installation and use of child safety seats in their vehicles. Technicians at the event will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding child passenger safety recommendations.
No registration or appointment is necessary to participate, but parents are asked to bring the following to the event:
