Crystal Lake Week Ahead Weather: Wind Advisory, Possible Storms

A windy, stormy Monday is expected to calm down throughout the week, giving way to potential snow and chilly temperatures by Friday night.

CRYSTAL LAKE-CARY, IL — Most of this week, we can expect fairly clear skies with a brisk wind freezing high temperatures. An exception to that is Monday, when heavy winds and possible thunderstorms can be expected alongside a 50 percent chance of rain in the evening.

A wind advisory from the National Weather Service warns residents of wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could break small branches from trees and make driving difficult, especially if you drive a high-profile vehicle.

A hazardous weather outlook also warns of possible thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening and a limited fire weather risk.

The middle of the week will calm down, with winds remaining relatively high. Winds up to 25 mph on Tuesday with gusts up to 40 are expected to drop to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 on Wednesday.

Friday may bring us some snow, according to the forecast, in the afternoon and evening. The temperature will match, hitting a high of 27 on Friday, dropping down to 15 that evening.

Today: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 64. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 11pm. Low around 29. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 17.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 25.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 13.

Friday: A chance of snow after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27.
