CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Coronavirus will not be the only thing impacting in-person learning in Crystal Lake this week. On Tuesday, schools in District 47 will shift to a solely remote learning model.

The district made the announcement on Monday, ahead of a winter storm expected to drop some six inches of snow across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to bring "significant accumulations" of snow to the area. Gusty northeast winds and some icing is also possible.

The storm could impact travel into the Tuesday morning commute and could lead to power outages, the NWS warns. Residents are reminded to travel with an extra flashlight, food and water in case of an emergency.

It is unclear as of writing whether District 47 schools will be open on Wednesday. Updates are posted to the school's Twitter account and website.
