A Day of Fun at the Beach at This Weekend’s Cardboard Cup Regatta

The Cardboard Cup Regatta will be held at Main Beach in Crystal Lake on Saturday.

Crystal Lake’s Cardboard Cup Regatta will be held this Saturday at Main Beach.

If you’ve never been before, visitors to the regatta can watch from the shore as people race their boats made out of cardboard along a 200-yard course. Individuals and businesses build the life-sized boats and compete for awards in various categories from fastest time to themed awards such as most creative, ugliest, stars and stripes and the famous most spectacular sinking.

Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Drive, opens at 9 a.m. and races start at noon. Boat registration is held from 9 to 11:15 a.m.
