Doris L. Thomas Witt, 88, of Crystal Lake

Doris L. Thomas Witt (nee Sorensen), 88, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington. 

She was born July 14, 1925, in Chicago to George L. Sorensen and Theodora M. (nee Jensen).

Doris married Darold E. Thomas on Nov. 24, 1946. Following her first marriage to Darold, Doris married William R. Witt on Oct. 18, 1974, with whom she would spend many happy years. 

Doris was part of the Crystal Lake Community High School graduating class of 1944. She became the bookkeeper at Knaack Manufacturing from 1969 until her retirement at the age of 65. 

She enjoyed many hobbies specifically golfing and gardening. Doris and Bill enjoyed hosting family cookouts and she was an active member of the Sons of Norway. The highlight of her life was a 1999 trip with her daughter, Cathy, to Norway. 

Doris is survived by her four children, Judith (Charles) Stuck, Cathy Graham, Roger Thomas, and Rick Thomas; two step children, Emmett (Mary) Witt, Colette (William) Heft; her brother, Hans L. Sorensen, and sister, Astrid L. Rapp; grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Thompson, Charles (Janine) Stuck III, Valerie (Bruce) Miller, Kelly (Karl) Graham-Tamai, Christopher Graham, Travis Thomas, Dustin Thomas, Colleen Witt, Emily (Jamie) Walter, Kevin Witt, Erin (Blaine) Wekony, Kyle Johnson, and Joseph Heft; her 6 great-grandchildren, Cassie Thompson, Jenna and Zach Stuck, Emerson Miller, Killian Tamai, Joshua Wekony and Allie Walter. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, William, on April 5, 1998. 

A visitation for Doris will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Route 176, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.

There will be a short visitation the following day, Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
