Elderly Woman Critically Injured in Crash With Garbage Truck
The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in McHenry County.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — An elderly Naperville woman is in critical condition after her vehicle collided with a garbage truck in McHenry County Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The collision occurred at 3:44 p.m. at Route 176 and Dunham Road in unincorporated Seneca Township. A preliminary investigation shows a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, driven by a 76-year-old Naperville woman, was heading north on Dunham Road and approaching a stop sign at Route 176 when the woman allegedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the intersection, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
A 2017 Autocar garbage truck, driven by a 45-year-old Union man, was westbound on Route 176 and did not have a stop sign when the Subaru drove in front of his truck, according to authorities.
Both vehicle went off the road after the collision, struck a guardrail and hit two trees, police said.

The Naperville woman was extricated by rescue personnel and flown by helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital on Riverside Road in Rockford where she remains in critical condition, police said Wednesday. The driver and sole occupant of the garbage truck was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley with minor injuries.
Airbags deployed in the Crosstrek and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The portion of Route 176 where the crash occurred was closed for about five hours.
The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
