First Snowfall In Crystal Lake, Cary: How Much Is Expected?

CRYSTAL LAKE AND CARY, IL — Crystal Lake and Cary are expected to get up to 2.5 inches of snow during an initial snowfall for the winter season Monday night. Between .5 and 2.5 inches is expected in different portions of the Chicago area during this initial snowfall, with Crystal Lake and Cary likely to see snowfall on the higher end of that range.

The heaviest snow is expected north of Interstate 80 and along and west of Interstate 355 mainly between 3 and 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

As for Crystal Lake and Cary, snow is likely mainly after 3 a.m. Tuesday with a 100 percent chance for precipitation. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is expected Monday night and between one and two inches is expected Tuesday.

The snow should shift to a mix of rain and snow between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts as high as 25 mph are in the forecast and there will be a high of 41 degrees.

Much of McHenry County and northwest Kane County is expected to see the heaviest snow for the Chicago area, which could lead to light accumulation on roads. Visibility may drop off periodically Tuesday morning and temps will be between 32 and 35 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
