Grayslake Railroad Crossing To Close For Repairs

Ivanhoe Road/Route 83 and Buckley Road/Route 137 will be closed to vehicle traffic for eight days starting this Thursday.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — The rail crossing at Ivanhoe Road/Route 83 and Buckley Road/Route 137 in Grayslake on the Metra Milwaukee District north line will be closed later this week for track work. Beginning on Thursday, Oct. 8, and continuing through Thursday, Oct. 15, Ivanhoe Road/Route 83 and Buckley Road/Route 137 will be closed to vehicle traffic at the tracks for eight days to allow for replacement of the road crossing and track resurfacing, according to a news release from Metra.

Detour signs will be posted, and drivers are advised to use Midlothian Road to cross the tracks.

Early on Sunday morning, Metra will provide bus service between Prairie Crossing and Fox Lake on Train 2627. Metra personnel will be on site to assist passengers, and the bus will be waiting for the train at the Prairie Crossing Station, located at Midlothian Road and Highway 137 and will make all Metra station stops from Prairie Crossing, according to the news release.

Crossing projects generally include the removal and replacement of rails, ties, ballast, rubber panels and asphalt and are part of the regularly scheduled maintenance of Metra’s assets.

Crossing renewals provide a smoother ride for motorists and ensure the continued safety of railroad operations, according to the news release.
