After the snow and slush comes the cold. A freeze watch has been issued from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning for McHenry County as well as the Chicago area. Temperatures in the upper 20s are possible

Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are urged to take steps to plants from the cold. Exposed outdoor water pipes and hoses should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing, according to the National Weather Service.
