Jury Sees Photos of Emaciated Horses in Trial of Crystal Lake Woman

The 41-year-old is on trial on multiple counts of felony cruelty to animals and failing to meet animal owner duties.

After being found guilty of misdemeanor animal neglect charges in a 2010 arrest and sentenced to probation and fines for those charges, Jamie Koy is on trial in McHenry County now for felony charges in a 2013 incident.

“Koy was charged in 2013 after animal control officers visited the property where the horses were stabled in Crystal Lake and found that eight horses in her care appeared to be suffering from malnutrition, police said at the time,” The Chicago Tribune reported.

“On Tuesday, jurors were shown photos of emaciated horses.

In opening statements Tuesday, McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Dave Johnston told jurors that four of those horses under Koy’s care at Clover Hill Stables were in “extremely poor, potentially life-threatening condition” when authorities visited in 2013,” The Tribune reported.
