Lightning Strikes Home in Algonquin

The fire happened early Thursday morning.

After hearing the crash of thunder just after 6:30 a.m., Thursday, a homeowner on Circle Drive in Algonquin started smelling smoke.

“He joked he’s a sound sleeper, but woke up when the lightning hit the roof of his house, just feet away from where he was sleeping,” CBS reported of the homeowner. “He thought the storm had passed, and went back to sleep, but when he smelled smoke, he got up and called 911.”

The fire was in the attic of the house, but the homeowner said the fire, smoke and water damage would be covered by his insurance.
