Funeral Services Saturday For Woodstock Crash Victims

Funeral services have been set for two of the men. A GoFundMe page has been set up to pay for the funeral of a third man killed in the crash

WOODSTOCK, IL – Funeral services have been set for two of the young men who died in a one-vehicle crash last weekend near Woodstock. Friends and family of Ryan K. Fleming, 20, and Quinlan Hartney, 20, both of Woodstock, will mourn both young men during seperate funeral services on Saturday, Dec. 22.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise funds for funeral costs for a third man, Daisen Hollands, 21, also of Woodstock, who was killed in the crash. That fund-raising effort is inching closer to its goal, bringing in $4,400 in just three days. And if you want to donate, you can do so on the GoFundMe page.

The family of Hollands, who is survived by his mom and four younger siblings, is hoping to raise $6,000 to pay for Hollands’ burial and funeral, according to the Go FundMe.

“Just a week before Christmas, his family is full of heartache and faced with the responsibility of laying him to rest,” Sean Strobel, organizer of the GoFundMe page, wrote. “His passing was untimely and unexpected, and they were not financially prepared for this responsibility.”

The men were all killed when a SUV went off Lily Pond Road near Woodstock and collided with a tree early Sunday. A preliminary investigation shows the Jeep was heading north on Lily Pond Road at 3:22 a.m. when the car went off the roadway south of McConnell Road and struck a tree just west of the road, according to authorities.

Authorities do not believe any of the men – who all live in Woodstock – were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. An autopsy Monday revealed all of the men died from blunt force trauma to the chest.

A fourth passenger in the car, a 20-year-old Woodstock man, survived and was first taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley. He was later transported by ambulance to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in serious condition, according to a news release. His name and condition is not being released, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office officials said Thursday.

The Woodstock men were all close friends, Hollands’ godmother, Wendy Nielsen, told the Northwest Herald.

“They had been friends since kindergarten. They grew up together. All the boys were very close. It was quite the extraordinary friendship they had,” Nielsen told the newspaper.

It's not clear at this point if alcohol was a factor in the crash, McHenry County Sheriff's Office deputy Sandra Rogers told the Northwest Herald earlier in the week. The roads were slick, it was foggy and the Jeep was traveling faster than the 45 mph posted speed limit, she said.

"You just add all of those [factors] together, and unfortunately you have a very, very tragic accident right before the holidays," Rogers told the Northwest Herald.

The crash remains under investigation as of Thursday, Rogers told Patch.
