A Lakemoor man, who was arrested for battering police officers, was ordered held in jail for 180 days on contempt of court for flipping off and swearing at a McHenry County judge during a bond hearing.

Joseph A. Savino Jr., 38, of the 28900 block of Pilgrims Pass in Lakemoor, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of resisting a peace officer.

A criminal complaint alleges that Savino possessed a stolen 2003 Dodge Durango in Woodstock on June 6.

Officers with the Woodstock Police Department arrested Savino around 4:30 a.m. on June 6 and transported him to a local hospital.

Officers attempted to remove the restraints off Savino from his hospital bed and place him back into handcuffs but he kicked an officer in the stomach, the complaint said.

Savino wrapped his legs around another officer’s leg to prevent the officer from walking as he refused to be moved from the hospital to a police car.

Once they arrived at the Woodstock Police Department, Savino again resisted arrest as officers tried to place him into a holding cell, the complaint said.

In addition to Savino’s felony and misdemeanor charges, he was also cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, driving on a revoked license, speeding, failure to give signal and disobeying a traffic control device.

During a June 7 bond hearing, Savino allegedly began shouting and swearing during court proceedings.

At one point, he gave the middle finger to the judge, who then found him in direct criminal contempt of court, according to court documents.

The judge ordered Savino to serve 180 days in jail for contempt of court. He is scheduled to end his sentence in early September.
