Man Throws Bricks At Car, Deputy, Into Squad Car: Police

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 28-year-old Wonder Lake man accused of throwing bricks at a police deputy, through another deputy's squad car window and through the windshield of a different car is behind bars.

Derek Bush, 28, faces criminal damage to property, criminal damage to government property and aggravated fleeing police charges in connection with the Wednesday morning incident, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Police say they were initially called to the 7400 block of Maple Drive in Wonder Lake at about 6:40 a.m. There they learned Bush had thrown several landscaping bricks through the windshield of a person's car, according to the news release.

While talking to the person, Bush returned to the victim's home and started a verbal argument with the victim, authorities said. A deputy separated the two and Bush then threw a retaining wall brick through the deputy's squad car, shattering the rear window, according to a news release.

Bush proceeded to throw another brick at a different deputy, authorities said. He is accused of then running inside the home and barricading himself inside. While there, he made deragatory comments that were directed at deputies outside, authorities said.

Bush, who was also wanted on a warrant for a retail theft charge, was later taken into custody. No one was injured in the incident, police said.

Bail has not yet been set in the case. Bush is expected in court Thursday morning.
