McHenry County Conservation District to Host Candlelight Hike Friday

Enjoy a candlelit hike, an evening of games, activities and much more. Read on for more details. Registration is required.

Coral Woods by Candlelight

Friday, March 3 from 7–9:30 p.m. at Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset, Marengo. Enjoy a candlelight hike through Coral Woods and get a sneak peek preview of Festival of the Sugar Maples in a park that is otherwise closed to visitors after sunset. Learn about how the District prepares for the festival, share some fireside stories, and listen for the presence of nocturnal wildlife. Be prepared to hike roughly 1.25 miles on potentially snowy terrain. After the hike, gather by the campfire, make a gourmet version of s’mores, and share a toast with an adult beverage. Participants who wish to share in the latter must be 21 and bring a valid ID. This is a great date night or girls’ night out! Fee: County resident $20.00/Non-resident $25.00. Just for Adults, ages 14 years and older. Registration deadline: February 27.

Family Night: Nature Night Sounds

Tuesday, March 14 from 7–8:30 p.m. at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Rd., Ringwood. Bring the whole family out to the Lost Valley Visitor Center for an evening of games, activities and a hike all based on the topic of nature sounds at night. This will be mostly an indoor program, but we will go for a short night hike at the end, weather permitting. Fee: County resident Free/Non-resident $5.00 Adults and Families. Registration deadline: March 10.

Cabin Fever Campfire

Saturday, March 25 from 7–8:30 p.m. at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake. Spring has officially arrived, which means warmer weather, a bounty of birds, and beautiful blossoms are all on the way! This is your chance to get out and enjoy the beginning of the spring season. On this evening of fireside fun, we will take a short night hike through the woods, look at the night sky through a telescope (weather permitting), and warm up around the fire with delicious snacks as we play a few fun games. Fee: County resident Free/Non-resident $5.00 Adults and Families. Registration deadline: March 21.
