McHenry Home Uninhabitable Following McHenry Fire

A fire that destroyed a garage and left a home uninhabitable in unincorporated McHenry Wednesday evening is under investigation.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 8:58 p.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of Althoff Drive in unincorporated McHenry for a report of a structure fire.

Fire crews found heavy smoke coming from a one-story single-family home, according to McHenry Fire Battalion Chief David Harwood.
Firefighters entered the garage area to extinguish the fire while simultaneously searching the residence for occupants.

All occupants had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department, Harwood said.
McHenry received assistance from the Spring Grove and Fox Lake fire departments.
A damage estimate was not immediately available but the home is temporarily uninhabitable due to the power and gas being shut off.
There were no injuries, Harwood said. The fire is being investigated by McHenry fire investigators.
